Joan was born and raised in Brick, New Jersey, a small seashore town. Since she was a child all she ever wanted to be was an artist and began with drawing lessons in grade school. Once in high school the fine art route was highly discouraged, so she went with an intense high school
commercial art program and took Graphic design in college. Joan has lived and experienced
many different places and has lived in every time zone in the continental
US, most recently living in the Phoenix metro area in Arizona before
moving back to the Jersey shore.
Joan began airbrushing tee shirts part time on the boardwalk and has done that off and on for the last 20 years, working in malls and most recently cutting it back to only parties. This is in an effort to give her more time to devote to oil painting full time. Since taking up oil painting she explored different subjects but tends to gravitate to seascape and shore scenes, particularly seagulls.
Artist Statement
Every ounce of talent I have is a gift from God. I believe firmly that i was wandering aimlessly in life until I turned to the fine arts. I enjoy working with colors, i often look at the setting sun picking out the colors or the subtle difference of colors as they move from light to shadows. I have been told my colors are bold and my style is a painterly realism. I just paint what I'm inspired to paint and what happens on the canvas is often amazing to me.
