Welcome
to the online art gallery of Joan Swanson
I work primarily in Pastel and oil paintings and create quality work
at affordable prices. I use only artist quality materials and
paint on archival surfaces. I most enjoy doing pet
portraits,
seascapes and landscapes of the New Jersey Shore and other places I
have lived and visited. I also welcome commissioned
projects.

For the TV show THE BEAST
In
Fall of 2008 I was contacted by a studio in Chicago to commission a
painting to be used on a new TV show featuring Patrick Swayze called
The Beast. I accepted the commission, which was a pastel of an
American Flag on a beach at sunrise. Here are screen shots of

Joan has been accepted into the
1st Annual NJ Open Juried Pastel Show, sponsored by the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, NJ. The show, which opens on Sunday, May 31, features work by outstanding pastel artists that reside in New Jersey. Stan Sperlak, an accomplished New Jersey pastellist in his own right and a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, selected 64 paintings by 34 artists for the show. Awards will be announced at the opening reception, which is Sunday, May 31st, from 3-5 p.m. The reception is open to the public.

Joan will be
one of the featured artist at JAG Fine Art Gallery in
Lambertville, NJ, for the show American Colors: Red, White and
Blues, February 14th to March 31, 2009. Paintings and
photographs that celebrate and critique American culture in a time
of severe economic turmoil and great political hope under the
first black President of the United States. For more
